Bank holiday stabbings

I heard today that there were two stabbings in Chiswick over the bank holiday weekend. Both happened in daylight around 5pm - one on Sunday and one on Monday. This level of crime is horrific. We are getting so used to shootings or stabbings that it doesn't even make front page news.

Something has to be done about crime in our local communities, or we will all be frightened to leave our homes. I favour zero tolerance. We also need more visible police officers on the streets so that we are doing all we can to prevent crime. We need to take control of the situation now before it gets completely out of control.

Well said.

Those of us with teenage children are particulary aware of this as most of them now know someone who has been stabbed, murdered or assaulted. We all worry that one days it may be one of our own kids who is hurt or killed.

It will take a lot of effort and some years to improve the situation.

However Mayor Boris Johnson is taking steps in the right direction by banning drinking of alcohol on public transport and by appointing people with real expertise as Deputy Mayors for Youth and for Policing.

We need more police on the streets, a clamp-down on guns and knives, zero tolerance of anti-social behaviour, a massive reduction in binge drinking and drug use, effective detection and rapid deportation of foreign criminals, tighter border controls so guns and drugs are not allowed in and a huge investment in facilities and activities for young people.
